About Redland Goshen
The United States Pony Clubs, Inc., develops character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports.
In 1958 Redland Hunt Pony Club was registered with the USPC, there were approximately 64 clubs in the country then registered. Although the Redland Hunt, our original sponsor, was disbanded many years ago when the club was only a few years old, a nucleus of its members established the Goshen Hunt, which was recognized in 1960. Many, if not most, of the early members of the RHPC remember hunting with Redland or Goshen during the winter months when the Pony Club's other activities were mostly mounted.
The 70"s brought with them two significant changes. One was the election of Sally O'Connor and Jim Ligon as Co-DC's, and the other was the beginning of the orientation of Redland toward combined training. By 1972, the club had 53 members. Activities included Games, Quiz, Camps, Dressage, Show Jumping, and Eventing. Many members continued with memberships with Goshen Hunt.
Today, we are a small but rapidly growing club, dedicated to the USPC core values. Although USPC is no longer the only organization available to teach to ride and care for their ponies/horses, since many riding stables now perform the same function, these principles have not changed. Volunteers and dedicated parents still form the backbone of an organization committed to the healthy development of the rider and their mounts.
To date we have graduated:
11 B's, 2 HB's 9 HA-grads, and 11 A-grads
USPC Pony Clubs and Riding Centers are assigned to one of 41 geographical regions, which are administered by a volunteer Regional Supervisor (RS) and other appointed and elected officers.
